CAPTURE THE WILDLIFE
Guests at our lodges are welcome to walk the woods roads and levees, ride their bicycles, or even canoe on our lakes to view and photograph wildlife and scenic areas.
Photography hobbyists and professionals alike will find ample opportunity to take photos at Tara. Tara’s commitment to sustainable use and management of natural resources means that there is an abundance of wildlife and scenic views on the 9,000 acres of lakes, riverbanks, and forests that make up the property.
Landscape Photography
If you enjoy nature and wildlife photography, our nature trails give you the perfect chance to practice your photography skills. Trails are easy to moderate and range from 2.4 miles (round trip) to 3.8 miles. The trails pass through a variety of southern habitats and you may see indigo buntings, waterfowl, foxes, white-tailed deer and much more of our native wildlife. Tara’s unique seasonal rookeries along the Mississippi river provide photographers with the opportunity to get up close and personal with many of our migrating waterfowl and wading birds. From wood storks to spoonbills to great blue herons and eagles, you can view them all from the banks of the river.
Wildlife Photography at Tara
Some of the animals you can expect to see at Tara include white-tailed deer, armadillos, raccoons, ruby-throated hummingbirds, waterfowl, wading birds, opossums, beaver, eastern wild turkeys, foxes, river otters, skunks, rabbits, fox squirrels, alligators, and maybe even a bobcat or coyote. Tara is in the Mississippi Flyway, providing seasonal resting spots for many migratory birds in spring, fall, and winter.
Evenings at Tara offer the sound of an occasional coyote howling off in the distance. For the early morning risers there is nothing more invigorating than witnessing nature awakening with the rising sun.
